Avocado Grill

img 7919After scuba diving, we were in the mood for a light meal so we decided to check out Avocado Grill. It is in a great spot by the Meyer Amphitheater.Unfortunately it was too rainy to sit outside on their nice patio, but the inside had a pleasing tropical ambiance as well.
img 7918The restaurant is advertised as a tapas restaurant so our plan was to get a few small plates. Once we saw they had poke bowls though, we could not resist, so we each got one and a couple appetizers. We were worried this would be more food then we wanted, but that was not the case.img 7934We found the Burrata salad to be the stand out part of the meal. The Burrata cheese was very creamy and had the best taste combination with the balsamic. The neon and tomatoes added some citrusy flavors that complimented the cheese as well. This was a decent sized portion for a small plate and I would definitely order it again.img 7929
We also got some ginger guacamole with our meal. It was a well made smooth guacamole, but the ginger flavor did not stand out much. This was a nice touch alongside our meal but it was not as uniquely flavored as I expected. Next time, I am more inclined to try the grilled avocado slices.  img 7921The menu is pretty deceiving because the poke bowl is under the large plate section. However when our meals were brought out, the tuna was the same size or possibly even smaller than our Burrata Salad small plate. Though it was served beautifully, I would definitely say the poke bowl was actually more like an ahi tuna tartare stack. It was very tasty with lots of fresh fish, but be warned that it’s not a typical poke bowl.img 7925
We liked the style of this restaurant and I do wish we had more places like this in Melbourne where you can get some fresh and light small plates. The menu is full of unique dishes so we will definitely have to branch out next time and try the octopus with chorizo or the mushroom fricassee. This is such a great place for a summer meal with so many dishes served cold and with such a citrus-y seafood selection.
