My Best Advice for Visiting Florida in April

I might be biased, but April is the best month to visit Florida! It does happen to be my birthday month and the month we got married, but we chose that specifically because of the weather and affordability.

When visiting Florida in April, you can expect warm sunshine (but not too hot) and often fewer crowds than earlier in the year. It is just the right time for a vacation and I will explain why in this blog post!

guide to visiting April in Florida

1.   April Weather

This time of year, the weather in Florida tends to be hot and sunny with few chances of April showers. I find it to be ideal beach and pool weather, without being hot enough to make outdoor activities miserable.

To give you an idea of what to expect weatherwise, I have broken up the typical weather by region below.

North Florida

In cities like Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Pensacola, April brings mild and enjoyable temperatures with highs typically in the mid-70s to low 80s°F (around 24-28°C) and lows in the 50s to low 60s°F (around 10-16°C). This is excellent weather for biking, hiking, and even camping!

Central Florida

Over in the Orlando and Tampa Bay region, plan for average highs in the low to mid-80s°F (around 27-30°C), with evening temperatures cooling down to the 60s°F (around 15-20°C). Keep in mind, that this will feel hot if you are traversing the theme parks, while over on the coast, you might need a light jacket. Luckily, there is little rain, so you can enjoy many classic Florida experiences without having to run for cover.

South Florida

By April, it is rare to see South Florida drop below 70°F (around 21-25°C). Expect most days to be in the  80s°F (around 29-31°C) with sunny skies. Luckily, the humidity won’t be as bad yet, so you can get a break in the shade this time of year.

2.   What to Pack for A Florida Vacation in April

My Ultimate Packing Guide explains everything you would need to bring to Florida in April. I would bring more shorts and tees as opposed to pants and sweatshirts. However, be sure to bring a light jacket in case the temperatures drop in the evening.

You will want to be sure to pack sunscreen and bug wipes if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors. I would also bring a hat and rain jacket to deal with the elements. Most importantly, bring a reusable water bottle so you can stay cool in the heat!

3.   The Best Florida Places to Visit in April

Though April still has some spring break crowds, especially if Easter falls later in the month, it is generally less crowded than earlier in the year. I would take this opportunity to visit some of the top destinations without the crowds or the heat. You can’t go wrong with April in Florida, but here are my favorite places to visit.

  • Orlando: The weather is perfect for exploring the world-renowned theme parks and vibrant city of Orlando without heavy crowds. Enjoy theme parks and the nearby Kennedy Space Center on weekdays for low crowds.

Crowd levels vary significantly in April influenced by spring break schedules, school holidays, and special events. When Easter falls later in the month, there can be high crowds the weeks before and after it, mainly in Orlando and on South Florida beaches.

However, this month tends to be milder in terms of crowds, especially in Late April. By then, most spring break crowds have dissipated. For travelers looking to avoid the peak crowds while still taking advantage of the fantastic weather and events, planning a visit to Florida in late April offers the best of both worlds.
