Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg Downtown Review
I’ve mentioned many times on this blog that St. Pete, Florida is one of my favorite places to visit. While I usually stay at the Hyatt Place St. Pete, the increase in points per night cost there had me looking for other options. After getting the IHG credit card, I decided to check out the Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg.
Andrew and I found this to be another excellent hotel option in the area. The Hotel Indigo St. Pete is a much more relaxed place to stay, just on the edge of the city. This visit was a short one, but at only 20,000 points per night, we will definitely be back!
Location and Atmosphere
You will find the Hotel Indigo St. Pete slightly north of downtown off 3rd Ave, which is a very secluded area. It felt like we were in an adorable neighborhood, with pretty trees and flowers lining the street. It was still less than a half mile walk from most of the restaurants and breweries we visited, so it was the perfect spot for us. There was also a delicious diner 2nd & Second and a beer bar right around the corner.
As for the hotel, it has a Key West look to it. The exterior is lime green with a white trim and a big front porch. We found it very welcoming inside and out. The lobby and the hallways seemed due for a refurbishment, but the hotel rooms themselves were bright and modern. Everything about this hotel screams vacation and you will definitely feel prepared to relax here.
Guest Rooms at the Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg
The Hotel Indigo brand is known for cozy rooms in big cities, so I was surprised how big this room was. There was plenty of space for our corgi to roll around in our one king bed room. The only room options are either one king or two doubles and the double rooms looked more cramped, so I would go for a king bed if you can.
The room had a subtle coastal vibe with light teal walls and an ocean colored rug. The window was a bit small, but it added plenty of light to the room. As for the bed, it was super comfy! After our night at a few breweries, I didn’t want to get out of the bed the next day!
The bathroom here is pretty small too, with just a enough room for a shower, toilet and small sink. The rooms here are definitely on the functional side and I would not recommend it for longer trips. However for a weekend getaway, it’s the perfect size! Everything was clean and comfortable so we were satisfied.
Pool and Amenities
The Hotel Indigo St. Pete is best for those wanting to explore the city, but there are some amenities if you want to relax at the hotel. The pool is the biggest perk as its big enough for quite a few swimmers and there is even a hot tub. It was on the chilly side when we visited, but hopefully they keep it better skimmed in the warmer months!
There is also a gym for those needing a workout. It is pretty small but it has a few treadmills, machines and free weights. If it’s nice out, you may prefer to rent a bicycle for free and take a ride down to the waterfront. It is the perfect way to see the area!
This hotel is valet parking only, which may be a perk, depending on your preference. It’s only $15 per day and they were pretty fast, so I didn’t find it to be too much of an inconvenience. There is no resort fee, but there is a one time $50 pet fee. It was much cheaper to brunch Charlie here than other hotels!
Dining and Drinks
If you want something to eat here, The Heritage Bar & Bistro is open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is not included, but you can get a package that includes daily breakfast at a discount if you like. You can order from a variety of a la carte options for under $10.
For dinner, you can also get a variety of coastal options, although I would suggest you venture into the city for a meal, just because of all the good restaurants around. The bar here is convenient though and is full service. They could make all sorts of cocktails and also had local beer on tap. When we checked in, there was a bit of a wait, and James at the front desk kindly gave us two free drink tickets for the bar. We were excited to be able to have some craft beer made by the nearby breweries!
Know Before You Go: Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg Downtown
We only stayed at the Hotel Indigo St. Pete for one night, but it was a wonderful stay! However, I was shocked to see many negative reviews on TripAdvisor. I had not even looked on here, until I started writing this and saw many reviews mentioning dirty bathrooms and even mold. I want to reiterate that we did not experience any of that during our stay and everything was immaculately cleaned. The only cons I really had was the musty smell in the hallway, but it was definitely not in the room.
I am not sure if we just got lucky or if they have made improvement lately, but I figured I would mention it, just in case. If you have IHG points, I would definitely take the chance here for a short trip. We are already hoping to go back for a weekend stay once this pandemic is over! Here are a few other things I wanted to mention:
- The Hotel Indigo St. Pete is a Category 3 IHG hotel and costs 20,000 points per night. On average, cash rates are around $200.
- Parking costs $15 per day for valet only. There is no resort fee though.
- Free amenities include a pool, hot tub, gym, complimentary bike rentals, and wifi.
- Rooms are ideal for two guests, as the only options are one king bed or two double beds. Technically you could fit up to four adults, but it would not be very comfortable
- Pets are allowed and there is a pet fee for $50 per stay per each pet.
- The hotel is in walking distance to Downtown St. Pete, including the Salvador Dali Museum and many different restaurants, bars and breweries.
