My Hyatt Regency Coral Gables Review for 2022
After many canceled trips due to covid, I finally got to take a trip to Miami for the first time since 2019! I planned to stay at The Confidante, but when I saw it was sold out, I realized there was a Hyatt in Coral Gables that looked convenient. Andrew, Kiwi, and I ended up staying at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables for a week in December 2021 and it was everything we wanted out of a Miami trip!
Though Coral Gables is a bit far from South Beach, it actually is an excellent place to stay if you want to experience everything the Miami area has to offer. We did not have any issues with traffic and also loved exploring the area within walking distance of this Hyatt in Coral Gables. I wanted to share all about our stay with this full review and explain why you should consider your own stay at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables next time you visit Miami.
Location and Atmosphere
As mentioned above, the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables has one of the best locations in Miami. It is located in the Downtown Coral Gables area, just a couple of blocks from Miracle Mile. This puts it within walking distance of many amazing restaurants and bars. It also is less than a fifteen-minute drive to Coconut Grove, Wynwood, Little Havana, and Downtown Miami.
Though you are almost half an hour away from South Beach, this location is also convenient for venturing further out of Miami to places like The Everglades and Biscayne National Park. I love South Beach for a weekend getaway at the beach, but to experience all Miami has to offer, staying at this Hyatt in Coral Gables is ideal.
As for the style, Hyatt Regency hotels tend to be dated or conference-focused hotels. Luckily, the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables is neither. Though it is a bit old-fashioned style in some of the décor, I think it strikes the right balance between the Mediterranean and Old Florida.
Guest Rooms at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables
We stayed in a King Bed room with a balcony for the duration of our stay. I was very pleased by the size of it, as longer trips in a small hotel room can get quite disorganized. This had a decent-sized sitting area and a big bathroom with plenty of room to get ready. My favorite parts were the balcony and the big TV that you could cast streaming channels to it. Kiwi loved having a big space to play fetch in!
The style was not as modern as many other Hyatt hotels, as there was carpet in the room and older-looking furniture. But it was super clean and bright (with black-out curtains for the night), so I was happy.
The only other cons were that the shower was an ADA roll-in style and got water everywhere on the bathroom floor. I am glad they offer these for guests needing wheelchair access, but I wish they could make the showers more functional for keeping water from getting everywhere. And I have to mention that one night the room next to us was playing Seinfeld so loud, I could tell it was the Parking Lot episode. Thankfully that only happened once, but be aware that you might want to bring earplugs.
Rooms cost around $300 per night, but we paid in points so it was only 12,000 points per night. If we had used the points for cashback instead, we only would have gotten $120 per night! If you want to start racking up your own points to use at Hyatt hotels, I highly recommend getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred through my affiliate link here.
Pool and Amenities
One of the best parts about this Hyatt in Coral Gables is the rooftop pool. It is a resort-style atmosphere with lots of shaded and unshaded seating to enjoy. The pool was heated and never too crowded when we were there. There are also steam rooms near the pool. Your dog can’t come in the pool area of course, but there are some dog-friendly beaches nearby, like Biscayne Beach!
On the downside, the hot tub was broken and there were multiple attempts to fix it. There is also no pool bar, but we were able to bring our own drinks out and it did not seem to be an issue.
Other amenities include the large fitness center and the shuttle service. The fitness center did not have pelotons like other Hyatt hotels I have been to, but it had plenty of cardio and strength training equipment. The free shuttle service is called Freebee and it will take you around Coral gables for free. We mainly walked during our visit, but we heard good things about this service.
One more big plus about this hotel was the parking situation. At many city hotels, they offer valet only and it takes a while to get your car. At this one there is a big parking garage and we always found spaces near the door quickly! This was a huge time saver when we were in a rush to start the day.
Restaurants Near the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables
Truly my favorite thing about the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables is how close it is to Miracle Mile. Almost every night, we walked somewhere for dinner or drinks. I find this to be the ideal way to wind down the day, as opposed to dealing with driving or getting an Uber.
Some of our favorite restaurants just a block away from the hotel were Threefold Café, Kae Sushi, and Craft. I also loved that the brewery Bay 13 was right across the street for great beer, and the Graziano’s Market was close by for breakfast and snacks.
This Hyatt in Coral Gables does not offer free breakfast, but it does have a couple of restaurants. Two Sisters restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch and Bar 50 is open for dinner. Neither sounded like anything special, so we opted to explore the nearby area for dining instead.
