Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster at Cocoa Beach Review
Today we are looking at a little slice of New England right in Cocoa Beach. Growing up in New Hampshire, I developed a love of lobster and always find myself craving it in the summer. I was excited to find Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster because it has a lot of the charm of a seafood shack up north.
There are plenty of seafood places in Cocoa Beach, but this one focuses on fried fish and of course, lobster. It’s the perfect compliment to a beach town. I have been here a few times before and finally got around to taking pictures so I could properly review it.
Location and Atmosphere
Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster is located on A1A near the Ron Jon Surf Shop and other Cocoa Beach landmarks. You can see it from the street with its colorful New England mural painted on the building. It’s a casual spot, and you can come here right after the beach if you so desire.
There is mainly outdoor seating at this restaurant with lots of picnic tables under an enclosure. They have plastic that they roll down if it’s raining as well. However, there are also a few tables inside and that is where we sat on this humid night.
Lobster Options
The highlight of the menu is obviously their lobster. You can get a cold or hot-buttered lobster roll for market price (it was $15 this past August), although availability varies. You can get also get a fresh steamed lobster for market price if you want to splurge.
I had seen hot buttered lobster rolls were a special in the past year via Facebook, so I was excited to see they were now officially on the menu! Unfortunately, they only make a limited number and we’re out by the time we were dining on our last visit. I’m not a big mayo fan, so I prefer these and was so sad they were out! Luckily, my friend likes cold ones, so I could at least review those type from her perspective.
The lobster roll looked really good, especially for only $15! There was plenty of succulent claw meat and not too much filling. My friend says it’s smaller than others she has had around town, but those are usually more expensive too. She found it to be a delicious meal.
The Rest of Jazzy’s Mainley Lobster Menu
The menu at Jazzy’s Mainley Lobster is a pretty standard seafood menu. As for drinks, you will find beer and wine, as well as soft drinks. They actually had over twenty different kinds of craft beer for a cheap price. I was able to get a can of Golden Road’s Mango Cart Ale for only $4.75.
There are plenty of other seafood options to choose from as well, besides lobster. You can get fish like mahi, tuna, haddock, scallops and shrimp, grilled or fried. Getting your fish on a sandwich is a slightly cheaper option with prices under $14. The baskets come with a side and cost between $15 to $22, however market price can vary. They also have a lot of seafood appetizers and a savory clam chowder.
I definitely recommend seafood, but they do have some other options available as well. Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster offers burgers, chicken sandwiches and salads. The options are pretty limited for vegetarians, but they do offer a veggie burger. Between the hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, macaroni salad, and rice of the day sides, you could have a lovely meal of side dishes! For the kids, there are basic options from $5 to $10, including chicken tenders and hot dogs.
Our Experience at Jazzy’s
Our most recent visit to Jazzy’s Mainley Lobster was with friends on a gorgeous summer evening after walking on the Cocoa Beach Pier. Upon arriving here, I almost felt like I was back in New England. We ended up eating inside, but I prefer the outside usually. Our service did not start out well, but eventually a waiter named AJ took over and he was a lot more attentive.
After finding out they were out of hot buttered lobster rolls. Andrew and I decided to split an appetizer of fried clams. Then I ordered the catch of the day sandwich and he ordered fried mahi mahi with a side of hush puppies. For drinks, we both took advantage of the craft beer offerings.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the clams! They had an excellent batter and were nice and crispy. I really enjoyed my sandwich though, which had blackened triple tail for the fish of the day. Both of the fish dishes we got were cooked perfectly with a mild spice. Our friends also loved the food, especially the lobster roll, as mentioned above.
I think I would recommend getting the plate over the sandwich, just because the side options are so good. The hush puppies were a nice choice over the fries that come with the sandwich. Two people could definitely split a plate and appetizer as well, which is what I think we will do next time.
