Nautical Wedding Touches: The Candy Table
When my parents approached me with the idea of doing a candy table at the wedding, I thought they were crazy. We already had a delicious cake and a ton of other things to do before the big day! They insisted they would take care of it though, and I am so glad they did. It ended up adding some adorable decorations to the wedding and providing favors that guests loved.
The theme of the candy table was beachy to match the rest of the wedding. I was so thrilled when my parents found this whale fruit basket from Pier 1 Imports to use as candy holder. We also got some fish bowls and other clear glass bowls from Michaels, along with these sea shells bowls from Amazon. Then to spruce up the table, we got battery powered LED string lights to place in the glass bowls and some mini easels from Target to display the candy type.
For candy, we knew taffy was a must as it is a seaside favorite. Since our colors were mainly navy, blush pink and sea foam green, we tried to stick to this scheme with candy as well. We purchased five pounds of vanilla and three pounds each of the coconut key lime flavor and straawberry, which was a good amount for 100 people, with some leftover after. I was surprised at how many people loved the Jordan almonds, we mainly picked them for color! It was a good thing we got five pounds of them, as they were very popular. We found some gumballs at Five Below and they added a cute pop of color as well.
I knew the Lindt truffles would be popular so we got three pounds of those in all our colors. The strawberries and cream was my favorite, but the sea salt dark chocolate, irish cream, and the citrus flavors were also delicious. The five pounds of gummy bears were unfortunately not the color I had been expecting, and they were kind of a hassle for guests to scoop. I would stick to mainly wrapped candies or ones with hard shells like the almonds and the gum balls.
The seashell chocolates were also a bit better as they have a thick exterior, but some did crack. We got three pounds of those and seventy-two Rock Candy swizzle sticks. We had way too may swizzle sticks, but that was the only size available and we wanted some for people to mix with their drinks. At the center of the table was the fish shaped foam that we had stuck fifty strawberry lemonade popsicles into. They were so yummy and looked like beach balls! We thought this was a neat presentation for them while sticking with the nautical theme. In the end, we had about twenty-five pounds of candy for 100 guests which was on the low end of what The Knot suggested, but it was more than enough! I am sure it varies by the type of guests at your wedding, but keeping it to less than half a pound of candy per person should be a good amount. If you have more kids and older adults, I would go with close to half a pound, but if you have mostly young adults and very few kids then a quarter of a pound will work. We kept telling our friends to grab some, but they were too preoccupied dancing! We got all of our candy from Candystore.com, which was an affordable and reliable website. Everything arrived on time and as expected. I would definitely recommend adding this to your wedding, if you would like to add more to your theme and have a fun and edible favor for guests. I think it even ended up being a lot more memorable than the cake!
