Tequesta Brewing Co. at Jupiter Review

Civil Society Brewing will always be my Palm Beach brewery go-to, but we finally got around to trying a different local tap room! After a day at John D. MacArthur State Park, we decided to check out the small brewery of Tequesta Brewing Co. A craft beer was just what we needed to end a day at the beach and this place delivered.

The Palm Beach brewery scene is still growing and Tequesta Brewing Co. is situated further north than most of the others. It has been open since 2011 and prides itself on quality beer and frequent live music. This post will review the beers and atmosphere of Tequesta Village’s only brewery. Tequesta Brewing Co Flight

Location and Atmosphere

You will find Tequesta Brewing Co. inside a strip mall, which is surprisingly common for Florida breweries. Because of this, it’s on the small side. A long bar stretches throughout the tap room and high top tables line the other side. There’s also a small couch area and lots of free board games if you want to relax for a while.

The one downside for me was how dark it was in here. On a nice day like when we went, it would be nice to see the sunshine. However, a lot of people find it to be a  cool vibe with the subtle lighting and the brewing equipment visible in the back.

Tequesta Brewing Co

When we visited on a Saturday afternoon, the place was packed! Luckily you don’t have to wait at the bar for a drink, as they have bartenders come to your table to get your order. There is no food served at Tequesta Brewing Co., however they do serve their beer at the Corner Cafe next door if you want to enjoy their brews with your food.

The Beer at Tequesta Brewing Co.

There are about ten taps at Tequesta Brewing Co. that mainly are for their own beer, along with the occasional guest taps. The tap list always has a variety of beers for whatever you are in the mood for. On this summer day, there was an emphasis on tropical beers, but the menu had a kolsch, a porter, and a couple darker beers as well.

There are no core beers here, but they do tend to have their Der Chancellor Kolsch and the Gnarley Barley Pale Ale always available and often in cans. These are both solids choices, with a great malt selection and a slight hoppiness as well. Being in South Florida, it is good to see they have refreshing beers like these!

Tequesta Brewing Co Menu

Tequesta Brewing Co. seems to be loved especially for their sours and their porters, which is a surprising combination! Their Brave Tart strawberry sour and their Daily Grind porter are some of the highest rated, but they did not have any of these to try when we went. You will have to keep an eye on their Facebook page if you want to try something specific!

Our Experience

When Andrew and I visited, we found a cozy high top table to sip our flights at. I was shocked that they were only $6 for four different tasters. In addition to the Kolsch and the Pale Ale mentioned above, here is what we tried.

  • Hazy Days American Wheat Ale – 4.3% ABV
  • Southern Dreams New England Style IPA – 7.1% ABV
  • Tuhops Alive Pale Ale – 6.2% ABV
  • Tasty Waves Tequesta Vice Lactose Sour – 4.3% ABV
  • Momma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Brewers Double IPA -8.9% ABV

My favorite by far was the Tasty Waves. This was a super fruity sour, but the lactose gave it a creamy, almost ice cream-like flavor. The Pale Ales and IPA’s were both as good as the names they came up with for them. The “Momma’s…” Double IPA was Andrew’s favorite, as he loved the hops selection

The only critique I will say, is that the New England IPA and the Hazy Wheat, were not hazy enough for me. I was picturing a juicy brew, and both of them only had that slightly hazy, full-bodied quality to it. I know this can be hard to accomplish though and I still liked the flavor, regardless.

Events at Tequesta Brewing Co.

There are so many frequent events at Tequesta Brewing Co. that there was even one going on when we were there! It seemed like some sort of community bike ride and we even got pints for $3.75 because it was going on. Usually, their community bike ride is the first and third Sundays of the month at 9 AM, so I’m not exactly sure what was going on this Saturday afternoon, but there were some cyclists there!

They also do a 4 mile fun run on the third Wednesday of every month in the evening and have some beer deals during that as well. Live music is super common here and you will find bands playing here most Friday and Saturday nights. Beer nerds, should go on a Wednesday though, because every week they have a cask tapping. Here you get to see it tapped and find out their newest beer!
