The Polite Pig at Disney Springs Review

It’s about time I reviewed The Polite Pig at Disney Springs, as I’ve dined here at least ten times since it opened in 2017. One of my favorite things about Disney Springs is how they have restaurants owned and operated by local Orlando restaurateurs. This one is run by the same owner as The Ravenous Pig, one of the most renowned restaurants in Orlando.

Even better, this is counter service, so it is cheaper than many other restaurants and does not require a reservation. This makes The Polite Pig an excellent spot for a casual meal, especially if you like barbecue food. In this review, I will share some of my favorite drinks and dishes to order and tips for dining here. Keep in mind, I tend to eat here a lot at night so I do not have the best pictures for this restaurant! I think that is the main reason I have been putting off this review!

Location and Atmosphere

You will find The Polite Pig directly next to the exit from the Lime Garage. There are pros and cons to this placement. The pro is that it’s easy to get to, but the con is that a lot of people dine here because it’s the first restaurant they see. With that, the line can often be long and stretch outside. There is a small counter for ordering at the front and then you are given a pager and can sit whenever.

It’s a decent sized place, but I have always struggled to find a seat in here. The inside of The Polite Pig has a sort of southern refined style, with lots of booths to sit at. There is not a lot of tables for large parties though and in the past, we have pushed together tables outside. Outside, there is not much atmosphere, but at least it is under a covered roof so you don’t have to worry about rain. There is also a bar outside where you can order drinks instead of waiting in the long line again!

The Polite Pig Menu

The Polite Pig menu is pretty vast for a barbecue place. It is the same for lunch and dinner and there is a kid’s meal as well. Your options include appetizers, salads, platters, sandwiches, sides and desserts. Unsurprisingly, there are very few vegetarian choices. Basically, the only meatless items on the menu are a couple salads and a handful of side dishes. The side dishes are so delicious that a meal of sides may not be such a bad idea though!

The sandwiches vary from $11 to $14 and only come with a pickle. You will have to add on sides for extra if you want some! I can’t resist them, so Andrew and I often share a platter.  For the price of $15 to $22 depending on the meat, you get a pretty large amount of meat, one choice of side, jalapeno cornbread and coleslaw. If you add on one more side for $4, this is plenty of food for two people! There’s also the Butcher Board option with includes four types of meat, two sides, cornbread and slaw for $39. I have split this between three before and it was a great way to try a little of everything!

For drinks, The Polite Pig is one counter service spot with plenty of options. There are options for beer, wine, cocktails and lots of whiskey. The beer is made locally at the brewery in Orlando and can be ordered by the glass, pitcher or flight. They have ten different on tap cocktails that can also be ordered by the glass or pitcher, as well a couple wine options.

The bourbon bar has 50 or so options for whatever whisky you desire! It’s pretty expensive to order a whiskey on the rocks, but if there is something specific you wanted to try, this is the place to do it. You can also choose from the curated flights list for a chance to try three different whiskeys.

Our Experience

In the past, we have always enjoyed our experience at The Polite Pig. The only issues we have had is with wait times or with food coming out at different times. On one instance with a friend, they were served a piece of brisket they found too fatty and this was replaced quickly when they asked, so keep that in mind if your order has a similar issue.

Of the smoked meats, I prefer the Coffee Rubbed Brisket, the BBQ Cheddar Sausage and the Pulled Pork Shoulder.  All three of these are included in the Butcher Board, in addition to the Smoked Chicken, so that’s another reason to order it. I have found the sandwiches to be on the greasier side, although I did like the pimento cheese and brisket combination once. I still think the platters are the best to order. The Polite Pig has four custom sauces that all have unique flavors too!

As for sides, it is hard to choose a favorite! For vegetables, I adore the Whiskey Caramel Brussels Sprouts and the BBQ Cauliflower with Pepitas. You can also get roast beets with feta, a tomato and watermelon salad or grilled street corn. Then there are can’t miss classics like Aged Cheddar Mac and Cheese and Molasses Baked Beans. It’s really hard to go wrong with the side dishes!

The beer nerd in me also loves the selection of brews and it is one of the few places to get a beer flight in Disney Springs. You get four different options and it comes on an adorable pig shaped board. As for the small batch cocktails, I usually find them a little too sweet for my liking. They do have a lot of unique flavors though, like a Sweet Tea Old Fashioned and a Blood Orange Moonshine Punch. Even with having gone so many times, I still haven’t tasted half the menu because there is just so much to try!

Special Offerings at The Polite Pig

Throughout the year, you will see seasonal drinks and dishes added to The Polite Pig Menu. In the past this has included a Smoked Prime Rib Slider and Mango Frose for the Flavors of Florida event and recently Pork Rinds with a pimento cheese dipping sauce. Another fan favorite thing to get here are Gideon’s Bakehouse cookies. This is another local Orlando restaurant that sells their giant, chocolate chip covered cookies here and they are so delicious!

Other things to keep in mind is that you can do online ordering. You simply place your order at this link and then go to the side of the register to pick it up when you are notified that it is ready. Lastly, if you really love The Polite Pig, they have plenty of merchandise to get. You can actually buy their barbecue sauces and spice rubs online to enjoy the smokey flavor at home. They also have t-shirts and even face masks for those wanting to represent their love for this barbecue spot.
