Umami Sushi
There is no shortage of sushi restaurants in Brevard County and I continue to see new ones popping up everywhere. We tend to try a new one every time, however this is one sushi spot we are constantly going back to. Umami is an unassuming restaurant in a strip mall that happens to make creative, mouthwatering sushi rolls as well as other Japanese favorites. This probably shouldn’t be surprising as Umami means a pleasant savory taste, although pleasant is an understatement for how good their food is.We usually just go with a miso soup or salad with ginger dressing to start and they have mastered these classics. The last time we went, we branched out for an appetizer of umami mushrooms. I am so glad we branched our and tried these because they were fabulous. They really were some of the best tasting mushrooms I have had with an earthy but also savory taste. Now we will need to try some of the other appetizers and see if they live up!
The only entrees we ever get are sushi and that is because there are so many delicious kinds to chose from. We have tried almost all of them but these four I mention are our favorites. The BuriBurigood is aptly named as it is a yummy spicy citrusy sushi roll. The yellowtail is always very fresh and I love how the orange, the serrano and the spicy ginger sauce bring the flavors together. The King of the North is the roll with all fried sweet potato curls on it, something I have never seen before and never would have imagined on a sushi roll. This is a great option for those new to sushi since it has some spicy tuna as well as cream cheese and steamed shrimp and then a nice crunch with the potato curls. The Yoga Flame is another good option for people starting to branch out to different types of sushi. It does not have any raw fish, just delicious tempura fish, baked kani and scallops. I know some consider cream cheese in sushi to be an abomination, but it is guilty pleasure of mine and I loved the creaminess along with crunchy tempura. If you love spicy tuna, then The Double Spicy Tuna is for you! This roll is covered in some very mouthwatering tuna that will also make your eyes water from the spice. It has the perfect amount of spicy-ness that keeps you wanting more.
These are some of our favorite rolls, but there is so much more to try here as well! We have gotten the Sushi Sashimi platter before and that is good for a group of four to try a few things in addition to some rolls. They even added a shrimp head which was fun to try! They tend to use a blue crab salad as opposed to krab, which I find has a much better flavor. Unfortunately the Boba Fett rolls has krab in it, so I don’t recommend ordering that despite the awesome name! The Corona, the Trinity, the Millennial, and the Bang Dang are also great options that we have had before. Maybe one day we will get around to trying the highly regarded Yuzu Miso-Yaki Sea Bass that everyone loves if the sushi doesn’t tempt us! If you are looking for sushi in Brevard county, you really can;t go wrong with this hidden gem.
