Dirty Oar Beer Company at Cocoa Village Review

The brewery scene is growing on the Space Coast and and I’m excited to share another local brewery with you today. I’ve been to Dirty Oar Beer Company a handful of times over the past six months and it is quickly becoming a favorite for me. They have seats indoors and outdoors and a very unique variety of beers.

The Location and Atmosphere

Dirty Oar Beer Company is located in Cocoa Village, which puts it close to a variety of excellent restaurants. We tend to come here after a meal at one of them, as I can’t think of a better dessert than a craft beer flight. I pretty much always get flights here because there is just so much to choose from.

It’s a short walk from the main strip and you’ll find it across from Norman’s Raw Bar and Grill. The bar is pretty simple with a semi-nautical theme going on with ropes, oars and colorfully painted picnic tables. I usually love sitting outside and they have a nice backyard with Adirondack chairs, which I thought I would love.

However, every time I’ve sat out there, the sun is shining directly into the area making it extremely hot, even on cooler days. It definitely works better in the evening once the sun goes down and a food truck has stopped by with some bites.

Dirty Oar Beer Selection

Dirty Oar has twenty different beers on tap with new ones always rotating in. They only have a few staple beers and instead are just constantly updating the taps.

There is also the Imagination Station where extremely unique beers are made in a small quantity. If the imagination station brew proves popular, it often gets moved to the regular menu!

The brewery has seriously gotten into the sour brews and I am here for it. I would almost argue that they have the best sours in Brevard County, but Intracoastal Brewing has also been upping its sour game recently as well. I have tried a variety of the Dirty Oar Beer selection and the sours and IPA’s tend to be my favorites.

The pints range from $5 to $7, with the eight and five ounce pours being $2 to $3 cheaper, respectively. If you go on Sunday, you can get your sixth five ouncer free after buying five. This is the perfect way to have a large flight selection!

You can also get thirty-two and sixty-four ounce growler pours and crowlers.

Their menu is constantly changing. Right now they have 6 IPA’s, 5 sours, 5 ales, 1 kolsch, 1 ESB, 1 stout and 1 porter. This is a typical breakdown for Dirty Oar in regards to types of beers. They also offer a few wines you can get by the glass and occasionally a guest tap cider.

Favorites from Dirty Oar Beer

Here are some of my favorite beers I have had from Dirty Oar. If any of these sound appealing to you, I recommend going soon before they run out!

• Deadbeat Paycheck Sour Ale – This is a Kiwi Kumquat Lactose Sour that recently won the Central Florida Top Brewer award. It’s a delicious fruity sour with a little bit of lactose to smooth out the pucker.
• Money Well Spent Sour Ale – Another fruity creation bursting with flavors of pineapple, coconut, guava and lychee.
• Friction Addiction IPA – A strong, citrusy IPA with a nice variety of Mandarina Bavaria and 007 hops.
• Sin-a-bomb ESB – An English bitter with a sweet and cinnamon twist that make it taste like a pastry!
• Security!!! Sour Smash Session NEIPA – I had this beer back in the fall and it’s my favorite IPA I’ve had here. It was a hazy beer with some sour flavor and it was dry hopped. This made for a little bit of everything I love!
• Cash Me Acai’d – This is one of their few core beers that’s always on the menu. It’s a sweet golden ale that’s reminiscent of an Açaí Bowl. The name is just too perfect as well.

The other core beers are the Porch Fire Kolsch and the Hey Buddy Golden Ale. I think they are well done brews but don’t really compare to the usual line up!

Events at Dirty Oar Beer Company

Like most of breweries around here, Dirty Oar is active in community events. They often team up with Cocoa Village festivals and have a pre-party or some sort to celebrate.

Most months, there is a Bark Brew Fest where pet owners are encouraged to bring their dog to the beer garden for a fun yappy hour. This brewery also has events around the holidays and decorates, as you can see from this slightly terrifying Halloween doll.

They also have a couple of fitness clubs that go on every week. On Wednesday’s, there is a cycling club where cyclists meet at 6 PM and bike through town. Then on Thursday’s there is a run club at 6:30 on the riverside path. After both events, participants get half off a beer!

Dirty Oar also has food trucks available for dinner every day Wednesday through Saturday. They have a variety of different trucks, including our favorite, the Bearded Chef. On our last visit, we got some tacos and queso fries from the truck to go with our beer and it was a match made in heaven!

Know Before You Go

Dirty Oar Beer Company opened in August of 2017 and they have already brought a great variety of brews to the Space Coast.

I can’t wait to see more from them as they grow. If you are in the Cocoa Village or Cocoa Beach area you have got to check them out!

• The brewery is open from 4-10 on Wednesday and Thursday, 12-12 on Friday and Saturday and 12-6 on Sunday.
• It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• They offer around twenty different beers and a couple types of wine.
• Pints of beer range from $5 to $7.
• The flights can get expensive with five ounce pours costing around $3.
• You can walk from Cocoa Village, but there’s ample parking at the brewery.
• Food Trucks are on site Wednesday-Saturday’s
