FM Pizza Oven at Eau Gallie Arts District Review
One thing I have desired in Melbourne for a while is a flatbread pizza spot. Though some restaurants serve them, there wasn’t really one in the area dedicated to making brick oven personal pizzas. Well luckily, the beloved food truck FM Pizza Oven, opened a brick and mortar spot in the Eau Gallie Arts District!
We’ve been enjoying this local food truck for years, but were curious to see how the transition would go. I am happy to report that the flatbread quality is even better and the restaurant service has been impeccable. Not only can you get a variety of different pizza flavors, but they also have delicious tapas and local craft beer on tap. I find this restaurant to be great for anything from a casual lunch to a night out.
Location and Atmosphere
FM Pizza Oven is located in the former State Bank of Eau Gallie that was built in the 1920’s, where Chef Mario’s used to be. There are not that many food spots in this area besides The Cottage, so it’s a welcome addition. You can sit on one of the few patio tables outside or enjoy the refined interior inside.
The inside is a modern redesign of what was left of the classic bank. They have kept a lot of the history, but freshened it up a bit. It’s also very bright inside from the large windows, which is a nice touch.
The centerpiece is a bright red wood fired oven. It was actually quite a challenge for FM Pizza Oven to get this inside! You can see the pizza’s being made if you sit at the bar too. Wherever you sit though, you are in for a treat!
Menu at FM Pizza Oven
Currently, FM Pizza Oven offers 16 different pizzas to choose from, as well as a few tapas and salad options. If that is not enough choice for you, you can design your own pizza from the list of toppings. They are very flexible with adjusting the pizzas to fit your preference as well.
I especially like that they offer all sorts of sauce types. In addition to classic tomato, you can get an alfredo base, a garlic based white pizza or a barbecue base. If you are going gluten free, you can even get gluten free crust for a $2 up charge. There are plenty of vegetarian options pizza toppings, however, no vegan cheese.
There is, however, some tasty salad options, including a caprese one with buffalo mozzarella! We also love the chicken wings and the shishito peppers! There’s a variety of appetizers for whatever suits your mood, but the pizza is definitely the star.
As for drinks, they currently have only local beer on tap. This includes brews from Hell ‘n Blazes, Intracoastal Brewing and Florida Beer Company! FM Pizza Oven also serves cocktails and carries a decent wine selection by the glass or bottle. For non-alcoholic drinks, there is the standard selection of soft drinks, iced tea and San Pellegrino.
Our Experience
We have been to FM Pizza Oven a few times and have loved it! The food is so fresh and the service is always excellent. We have even gotten our food to go and taken it to Intracoastal Brewing Company for an amazing meal!
My favorite pizza is a tie between the Muffuletta Pizza and the Prosciutto and Arugula. Both have a little kick and the perfect combination of flavors. I have tried a few others, and many variations at their truck through the years and have never been disappointed.
The only thing I will mention is that their pizzas can be a little smaller than people expect given the $12-$16 price range. However, they are very high quality. I have yet top eat a whole one myself in one sitting, but they definitely are bit small for two people to share for one meal.
FM Pizza Oven Events and More
Even though they have a full service restaurant, you will still see FM Pizza Oven in their food truck around town. They are a mainstay at local breweries and other food truck gatherings. Check out their Facebook page to see where the food truck will be next.
As for the restaurant, they occasionally have specials going on, including football watch parties and more. The most exciting thing you can experience at FM Pizza Oven is their very own speakeasy! Right next door is the Oleander Club, a small bar that only holds 16 people.
We went here the other night for a drink with friends and are convinced it is the best bar in town! They offer perfectly crafted drinks including classics like a Negroni and more unique options like a Lavender Honey cocktail. You can also get a few appetizers here, such as charcuterie. Between the atmosphere and the drinks, you can’t go wrong with a visit to the Oleander Club!
