Bugnutty Brewing Co. at Cocoa Village Review

There’s a new brewery in Cocoa Village, now that Bugnutty Brewing Company has moved there from Merritt Island. This brewery was started in 2013 by three friends who had been homebrewing for years. The name is from a saying they have in that they are “driven Bugnutty’, so basically another word for crazy!

Bugnutty Brewing Company is an excellent addition to the area and this open air space seems to be frequently filled with music and beer lovers. There is over twenty taps, so you can definitely find something to enjoy here too. While it may not have as many unique beers as nearby Intracoastal Brewing, I still recommend trying the IPA’s and the stouts here.

Location and Atmosphere

Bugnutty Brewing Company’s new location is in the heart of Cocoa Village, near Dirty Oar Beer Company and Cryderman’s. It’s a huge place and it’s hard to miss, especially on live music nights. We visited this new spot on a Friday evening and found it to be a lively spot.

The taproom itself is very large, with a warehouse vibe and an open view of the Brewing equipment. There are high tops spread throughout and a long bar. We were surprised how packed the brewery was and managed to squeeze into a couple of spots at the bar. Once I heard the band play, I realized why it was so busy. Between the beer and the live music, it’s a very fun atmosphere for a night out, but I can see it being a relaxing spot in the day time as well.

The Beer at Bugnutty Brewing Company

Another thing that surprised me about Bugnutty Brewing was how many beers they had on tap. There were over 20 when we went, and all sorts of different kinds. They have a few core beers, you can usually find, and I have even had them around town. Expect to see the following beers, in addition to many more

Zeus Will Smite Thee – IPA, 7.2% ABV, 70 IBU
Dark Matter – Black IPA, 6.5% ABV, 67 IBU
Sticky Foot – Pale Ale, 5.7% ABV, 36 IBU
Suzi’s Red Belly Ale – Irish Red, 5% ABV, 24 IBU
Oatdis the Elder – Oatmeal Stout, 7% ABV, 36 IBU

Though their core list tends more towards IPA’s and ales, it seems they always have different types on tap. The only thing this brewery is lacking is sour beer, but you can find plenty of those at Dirty Oar Beer Company next door.

Food at Bugnutty Brewing Company

If you are hungry or just want a snack with your beer, the brewery has a pretty vast menu to choose from. There are you typical snacks like a pretzel with beer cheese and nachos. However, one of there most unique options are tater tots will all sorts of toppings. You can get an individual or shareable size of tots with everything from spicy chili to cheese curds and gravy.

Bugnutty Brewing also offers oven baked wings with 10 different kinds of sauce. These are all oven baked and looked very enticing coming out of the oven. There’s a lot of restaurants better for a full meal in Cocoa Village, but this brewery have all the foods you might crave while drinking beer.

Our Experience

I have had Bugnutty Brewing beer many times at brewery festivals and restaurants like Rising Tide, but I never went to their tap room until recently. It’s mainly just because I don’t have much of a reason to go to Merritt Island, and I was very happy when they moved to the closer to me location of Cocoa Village.

Like I said above, the place was packed on a Friday night, but once we found a seat at the bar, the bartender got our order quickly. We were standing in the food ordering line for a while before we realized though. Make sure to go to the side for beer, if you go on a busy night as well!

They do not offer flights, but they do have half pours, so we each ended up getting four of them each throughout the night. I started on the lighter side with the Pineapple Tiki Beer and the Key Lime Pie fruity beer. Then I moved on to some heavier options included in the 007 Golden IPA and the Sticky Foot Pale Ale.

I found them all to be solid beer options with the Pineapple Tiki and the 007 being my favorites. Both had notes tropical fruit and hops and were very refreshing. My least favorite was the Key Lime, as it simply didn’t live up to other Key Lime beers I have had. Some of the beers were thinner on the mouth feel than I prefer, but they were all pretty refreshing.

Events and More

If you like live music, I definitely recommend coming on Fridays when they frequently have a live band. It added a lot to the experience for us! They also have open mic night on Wednesdays where local musicians can perform. Check it out at 7 PM!

I was surprised to see other experiences offered, such as a Valentine’s Day beer and food pairing dinner. It had a pretty romantic menu considering it was a brewery! You can also expect to find them at local brewery festivals like Rocky Water Brew Fest at EGAD and the upcoming Cocoa Village Brewer’s Bash. Do not hesitate to give Bugnutty a try next time you see their beer out in the wild!

I have been on a mission for years to review every Brevard County Brewery and I was just about to try this one when they announced the move! I am glad I waited until the new Bugnutty location was open because it really added a lot to the brewery experience. Make sure you check it out next time you are in the Cocoa Village area!

Bugnutty Brewing Company is open from 2 PM to 10 PM Mondays through Thursday, noon to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 8 PM on Sundays.
Wine and ciders are available in addition to craft beer.
There is seating indoors only and dogs are not allowed.
Food is served on site and includes wings and sandwiches.
Growler fills are available for beer to go.
There are multiple free parking lots within walking distance.
